Hello, and welcome to all things lunar and coloured.

How fortunate we are to have such a fascinating and huge sky object just waiting for us to peer into its wonders, frozen in time. My aim in recent years has been to encourage everyone to take pictures of their own through spending the minimum amount of time and money. Anyone can do it and do it immediately. Do now, learn later. Just get the stunning pictures.

New book announcement!
The Rainbow Sky
by Tony Buick - see below

All the methods, equipment, hints and tips are described in a lavishly illustrated book, with a foreword by Sir Patrick Moore;

'How to Photograph the Moon and Planets with your Digital Camera' by Tony Buick.

It is on sale and available from Amazon, Springer and most book stores.

Second edition revised by Phil Pugh click here

The project is terrific for:

1 Amateurs new to digital astrophotography who wish to take one inexpensive and fast step into the amazing world of the Moon.

2 Course tutors and educational establishments to insert a rapid, mobile and high quality content to their programme.

3 Youngsters of all ages, maybe with their parents and certainly with their friends, to show that they can get totally and easily involved with the collection of detailed pictures from another world.

It is also wonderful for beginners to make a super contribution to their local astronomy society.

Here is a picture for starters captured quickly, easily and inexpensively as described.

givemethemoon.com was born out of the creation of a cheap, versatile, home made adaptor to attach an average family digital camera to an inexpensive telescope that allowed the capture of hundreds of stunning Moon images at each session. Almost no astronomical knowledge was required and the techniques are fully and simply described in the book mentioned above. Any questions or advice can be addressed through this site.

Also welcome are comments and feedback from your experiences with construction and use of the adaptor. Especially send pictures you have captured and the best ones will be placed on the gallery – just add some details such as which camera, telescope, date and settings you used.

NEW BOOK:

“We live in a coloured universe and perhaps we do not always appreciate its variety and beauty.”

So begins Sir Patrick Moore’s foreword to the new book THE RAINBOW SKY.

The Rainbow Sky

This book provides a fascinating tour of the universe in colour with carefully selected pictures and graphics – all 322 of them – with explanations of why we see colour, what the colours mean and why they are often falsified to present the science behind the images. There are atmospheric phenomena such as rainbows and aurora, true and false colours of our planets and their moons, stunning nebulae, galaxies and colourful clues to giant features such as black holes. It is suitable for people of any age who are fascinated by the world and universe around us.

“This is a very unusual and comprehensive book, a most enjoyable work.”

The book is available NOW from Springer and Amazon
